[Tutorial] Update to hboot 2.15 via RUU

$
0
0
Running an RUU is only simple for those who haven't been messing with their devices, and that usually isn't us. Since I just did this, I want to write down the steps because I was not able to find easy answers.

This assumes your device is rooted with a different ROM installed. If that is not the case, then you can just download and run the RUU for your device, end of instructions.

Downloading the correct RUU
The most complete list of RUUs for Ville is found on androidruu.com
T-Mobile: http://www.androidruu.com/getdownloa...gned_ICS_2.exe
HTC Europe: http://www.androidruu.com/getdownloa...signed_2_4.exe
There are RUU updates listed for other service providers, but I can't tell if they are JellyBean hboot 2.15 or not. If someone knows, I'll update this post.
Preparing your device

Make your device s-off if it isn't already. Why?
  1. You will not have to relock the bootloader to perform the RUU update.
  2. You will not have to flash the boot image separately.
If for some reason you can't or won't go s-off, you can still do this, but will have many more steps to follow.
Instructions to make your device s-off are here for firmwares below 3.14: Facepalm S-Off for HTC Devices One S, One XL, Droid DNA
Or you can use the HTC All-In-One Toolkit which helps you through the process.

Use the HTC All-In-One Toolkit (link above) to change the CID to match the RUU.
You needed Super CID to gain s-off, but it won't help you install RUUs. Even if you are Super CID (11111111), you must change your CID to match the RUU you are installing (mine is TMobile: T-MOB010). I know, kinda defeats the purpose of being Super CID, but the RUU won't succeed otherwise. If you are s-off, it is a one click operation using the All-In-One Toolkit.

Backup your device
Use Titanium backup to backup all your user apps so you can restore them afterwards. (No, don't restore system apps please!)
Also back up your ROM by booting into recovery mode and selecting Backup.
If you are only updating the hboot but keeping the same ROM, you can just restore the backup afterwards. Not sure why anyone would need to update the hboot without installing a new ROM, but then you also have a backup in case things go wrong.

Run the RUU
If you are s-on you will have to relock the bootloader by rebooting into the fastboot mode, connecting your device to the computer and running the command "fastboot oem lock". You will also have to follow the process again to unlock your bootloader after doing the update. Tutorials for that are found elsewhere.

1. Leave bootloader unlocked, and leave s-off as is. No need to go back to s-on or relock bootloader.
2. Run the RUU and wait while it updates the phone (Incidentally, it didn't even wipe my sd partition data!)
3. While you are still in bootloader mode (before booting up), use the All-In-One tool to install the TWRP S4 recovery. Or, if you don't want to use the tool, you'll have to download a recovery and use "fastboot flash recovery" followed by the name of zipped recovery file.
4. Reboot bootloader and enter recovery mode
5. Restore from backup or Mount USB from TWRP and copy over the ROM and gapps package, flash, wipe cache, and you are up and running.
If you are s-on you will need to extract the boot.img from the zip you are flashing and flash that image separately with "fastboot flash boot boot.img"

Note that device still has the unlocked bootloader and is still s-off! :victory:

My device before: hboot 1.09, unlocked bootloader, Super CID, s-off (In layman's terms, this is a device with an unlocked bootloader so it can accept other ROMs, set to accept any service provider's RUU update via SuperCID, and has had write permission to the boot sector removed via s-off).

My device after: hboot 2.15, unlocked bootloader, T-MOB010 CID, s-off

If possible, I will answer your comments or questions by updating this post and I'll refer you back to here.

Why Omni?
Omni is what custom ROMs used to be about – innovation, new features, transparency, community, and freedom. Our goal is to experiment with Android development because we enjoy it. Omni isn’t better, just different. It’s another option for the billion Android users out there. Android (vs. iOS and every other mobile OS) has thrived on options as well as the gigantic, talented development community that has emerged to build those options. That’s the beauty of Android – that you can pick and choose from a smorgasbord of devices with varying features and functionality.

Omni is a chance to get involved, no matter who you are. Developers, whether you’ve been developing apps for a week, or ROM features for 3 years, you’re welcome. Users, we know you want to help out, and now you can – Omni actively encourages bug reports and feature requests, which can be added to our publicly accessible roadmap. What’s the point in giving you a ROM, and forcing you to not tell us about any bugs you find?

We also recognise how people use Custom ROMs – we’re all custom ROM users and developers ourselves – the argument that “nightlies are not for end users” is over-used, and no longer valid. We’ve found that the vast majority of users want to get nightly updates to their ROM. For that reason, nightlies aren’t a playground – nightlies are for new features that are finished. You should be able to expect the same stability and reliability from a nightly as you would from a “release” ROM, and can report any bugs that prevent this from happening.

We know not everyone wants to update their ROM daily, and you are free to update as frequently or infrequently as you like. Omni is about flexibility and giving users what they expect – and we are excited to see where the community goes with it.

I am proud to present to you BeanStalk Builds put together by myself. This is a build composed off of the CM10.2 builds and i have added alot of features on top of it. So you get speed, stability, and ultra customization ability. Many of the additional code additions came from slim ROM and also Derteufels build and have been modified to work with my current setup. A huge thanks to Derteufel and the Slim ROM guys for their work and dedication. Also a big thanks to everyone involved with CM as that is the building stone in this project. Thanks to skyliner33v for the bootanimation and upcoming wallpapers!

I plan on updating this and adding features on a pretty regular basis, so if you happen to like this, keep checking back.

What is AOKP?
AOKP stands for Android Open Kang Project. It is a custom ROM distribution for several high-end Android devices. The name is a play on the word kang and AOSP (Android Open Source Project). The name was sort of a joke, but it just stuck, just like our infatuation with unicorns.

We fork the source code of Android that Google puts out in the open with every major version release, and we then add the magical unicorn bytes (read: we add some of the coolest features that are both useful and make your ROM awesome).

With AOKP, you can generally do a lot more with your device than what you could do with the original firmware that came installed on it.

Why AOKP ?
We were waiting for when you’d ask this.

There are a variety of reasons why a hilly billy Android user, on a bright sunny day, would suddenly start using AOKP and loving it.

For one, AOKP is lightweight. Most OEMs provide a heavy UI layer over Android and have loads of bloatware (i.e. apps that not everyone use every day, but you cannot remove because they’re “baked in” by default). Since AOKP is built upon vanilla Android source, it has neither of the above.

Also AOKP has features that you will not find on your stock firmware. You can have a multitude of toggles to quickly flip a lot of your phone’s settings right at your fingertips, or you can launch apps quickly from any screen using our Ribbons.

You can change almost each and every aspect of the OS, from its looks to the way it functions, with total freedom. And did we tell you, AOKP helps you make tacos?

DISCLAIMER

Code:

#include
/*
 * Your warranty is now void.
 *
 * I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
 * thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
 * do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
 * before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
 * you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
 */

Rom is not ready for daily use, it's for development purpose only.
You will need S-OFF and new partition layout for MaximusHD 10 (or ramdisk modding).

BUGS
It boots, but display code need more update, you will need to force shutdown (10sec + on power button) few times, and start again, and again, until display is initialized, and rom will boot. I'm not responsable for burned screen.
Almost everything is bugged, this is for devs only.

original rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2341395, all credits to @bigxie and HTC
it can be useful to start with a fresh base again.
Hints to start with a fresh base:
it needs a new recovery, but using this workaround there is no problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2532300
only rom mod is to edit install-script to match partition layout, install-binary (from the link above), and lcd.density to 240 in build.prop. And as usual, few ramdisk fix (fstab.ville->userdata line only, ueventd.m7 renamed to ueventd.ville, adb enabled in default.prop and radio and q6 partition matching in init.target.rc).
delete lib\hw\*keymaster*.so and keymaster, qseecomd binary from system\bin to disable qseecom (but maybe it will works good using keymaster.default.so from HTC MaximusHD, i didn't tryed yet)

About the mod:

This is a port of HTC Desire 601 Zoe Camera. To make it working i used HTC One Mini kernel source to update camera parts.

Compatibility:

Compatible with Android 4.2.2 with Sense 5 only.

Bugs:

-Zoom->It's related to our Adreno 2xx instead of Adreno 3xx from all native Zoe devices.
Adreno driver update is causing crash, so do not use zoom with Source v2.1, i'm trying to disable it
-Auto white balance fails
You tell me.

Hi mates,

i succesfuly made my international one s supercid and s-off with facepalm s-off. after that i flashed maximushd and that worked flowlesly. great rom! don´t know what was in my mind to command in fastboot "fastboot write secureflag 3". there my Problems begun. i searched erverywhere with no solution to get it back s-off. you can´t downgrade hboot 2.16 with ruu. method getting it supercid, a requirement for facepalm, didn´t worked too. so i decided to sent it in to a repair Center to fix my Problem. my wife asked me to s-off her htc one. i searched in the one Forum and found rumrunners s-off. on there Website i noticed they are supporting a lot of htc devices, including my one s. i gave it a shot and boom! i´m s-off again!

it´s a universal tool. download the file, extract it and run the soju.exe. follow instructions and you will be s-off!
